About
Dr Amelia Moane has 25 years of experience in skin cancer medicine and for the past 21 years has worked solely in this dedicated field of care in Brisbane, Queensland.
She has extensive experience in full skin checks, mole scanning, spot checks, medical and surgical management of skin cancers and precancers, and addressing nuisance skin lesions.
Queensland has the highest rates of skin cancer in the world and skin checks save lives.
Dr Amelia is passionate about picking up skin cancers and melanoma early and has a reputation for thorough checks and erring on the side of caution. Skin cancer and melanoma have very high rates of cure if picked up early.
Dr Amelia Moane was raised in Tasmania and gained her Bachelor of Medical Science and her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery graduating with honours from the University of Tasmania in 1996. She then went on to achieve her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2002 and completed further training in dermoscopy, skin cancer medicine and surgery in 2003. Dr Amelia is a member of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.
In her first few weeks of medical practice in Hobart Tasmania, Dr Amelia detected and excised a melanoma from the shoulder of a young lady in her early 20s. A year later, Dr Amelia looked after the same young lady with her first pregnancy. This patient sparked Dr Amelia’s career long passion for early detection of melanoma and other skin cancers as two lives would have been tragically lost if the young lady’s melanoma had gone undetected.
Upon moving to Brisbane in 2003, Dr Amelia was alarmed at the epidemic of skin cancer in the Sunshine State and has dedicated her practice solely to skin cancer detection and treatment ever since. Dr Amelia spotted her own husband’s melanoma (which was successfully treated) and, growing up in the “healthy tan” era with sun and beach loving parents, she has had her own share of past sunburns and sun damage and hence understands well the concerns of patients.
Away from work, Dr Amelia is a proud Mum of two wonderful boys who keep her busy with their sports and social lives and interests. When she gets a chance to escape, she loves a good bushwalk. And, in spite of her work, Dr Amelia has a tremendous appreciation for the stunning beaches of south east Queensland and you may spot her on occasion of an early morning or late afternoon in full sun safe gear and heavy zinc cream enjoying The Great Outdoors.
